Did you know that Le Corbusier, known worldwide for his buildings, was also a painter, a sculptor and a man of letters?

His work in Ronchamp is a perfect example of his many talents.

Walk about this iconic place with a specialist and recognize the artistic inspirations hidden there.

Finally, a musical moment in the Chapel completes the synthesis of different forms of art.

The Chapel is suffused with a soft and deeply moving light which raises feelings towards the Sacred.

Le Corbusier used subdued lighting, colours and drawings with symbolical meanings on the window panes.

These are the secrets of Le Corbusier’s ways of creating, and you will no longer miss them after an amazing “architecture walk” about the place.

Window panes workshop

In the Chapel, Le Corbusier created subdued lighting, he used lighting effects, colours and drawings with symbolical meanings on the window panes. By playing with transparency, colours and drawings, the pupils create their own window panes after having discovered Notre-Dame-du-Haut.

Collage workshop

Collage is a genuine art technique which was adopted by Le Corbusier, Matisse and many other 20th century artists.

By playing on colours, patterns, texture and shapes, the pupils make their own collage after having discovered the Chapel of Notre-Dame-du-Haut.

2h activity : 45 minutes to discover the site, 1h15 art class in the workshop room. For cycles 2 & 3 pupils and secondary school pupils.

The four little pigs want to build a concrete house!

Inspired by the Chapel by Le Corbusier, the pupils give free rein to their imagination to complete the last picture of the story and create the pigs’ modern house.

2h activity : 30 minutes to discover the site, 15 minutes to tell the story, 1h15 art class in the workshop room. For cycles 1 & 2 pupils.

Architecture workshop

Like real architects, the pupils build a model shelter based on the Modulor with salvaged materials.

It is a good opportunity to remember the shapes they have seen during the visit and to think about Le Corbusier’s building methods as well as about sustainable development.

Concrete activity

Rather badly looked upon, reinforced concrete enabled building and design progress. The Hill of Notre-Dame-du- Haut is a brilliant example! Watch the different shades of concrete on the Hill of Notre-Dame-du-Haut and be inspired to create your own temporary sculpture on the spot. Concrete blocks and salvaged materials are available to get varied textures, colours and shapes.

2h activity. For years 8, 9 and over.

Investigation on the hill

The miniature museum attendant of the hill is shattered by the news: objects have disappeared during the night, taken away by a robber.

Will you manage to find where the robber has hidden the treasure before he comes to get it back?

A real adventure tour with the pleasure of being together and of discovering the cultural heritage.

Last entrance: 30 minutes before closing time. Closed on 1 January

A mask is required to visit the oratory of the Monastery.

SERVICES

For a sheltered picnic or a break, book the Pilgrim’s Shelter, one of the two houses built by Le Corbusier below the Chapel, or a room in La Porterie by Renzo Piano.

The place will be attributed according to the number of people, availabilities and the requested services.

Capacity: 45 to 60 persons maximum according to the place.

Before or after your activity, enjoy a snack with your pupils!
